Recognized for his skill, consistency, and growth, Duran will represent Speedy Glass USA on the national stage this September.
Kennewick, WA, August 28, 2025 — Gabriel Duran, a skilled auto glass technician at Speedy Glass in Kennewick, Washington, has been selected to compete in the 2025 Auto Glass Week Technician Competition, a national event that showcases the industry’s most skilled professionals. The competition will take place September 8-11 in Reno, Nevada.
Originally introduced to the trade while looking for steady work and a better future for his family, Duran turned a promising opportunity into a lasting career. “I needed something stable,” said Duran. “Speedy Glass gave me that chance, and I’ve taken every opportunity they’ve given me to get better at what I do.”
Duran began his career at Speedy Glass as an apprentice, training from September 2022 to March 2024 and gaining hands-on experience that helped him quickly develop the skills needed to compete at a national level. As part of Fix Network, a global leader in automotive aftermarket services, Speedy Glass technicians have access to the Fix Network Apprenticeship Program — the first Automotive Glass Apprenticeship of its kind in the United States. Although the program had not yet officially launched when Duran began his training, he followed its preliminary framework and formally enrolled once it was established, later becoming its first official graduate.
Today, aspiring apprentices can benefit from a program designed to elevate technician training across the industry, providing a structured and efficient pathway to certification in auto glass repair and replacement services.
Apprentices earn while they learn — receiving top-notch instruction and hands-on training from National and Regional trainers and ongoing mentoring from skilled journeypersons. The curriculum covers key topics such as auto glass replacement and repair, ADAS
calibration, safe installation practices, diagnostics, and cost estimate preparation. To graduate, participants must pass the Certified Technician exam administered by the Auto Glass Safety Council (AGSC). Completing his training laid a strong foundation for Duran’s
career development. He continues to further refine his expertise in windshield repair, ADAS calibration, and glass installation, thanks to the guidance and support of Speedy Glass senior trainers.
He credits his training mentors and other fellow technicians for supporting his growth in the trade. “The way they’ve trained and guided me has made all the difference,” he said. “Gaining hands-on experience early in my career gave me the foundation I needed to
succeed in this industry. Being chosen to compete at Auto Glass Week makes me feel like I’m on the right path. I’m proud to represent Speedy Glass and Fix Network when I compete in Reno.”
